Our Mission.
The Mission of the James Jay Dudley Luce Foundation, Inc. is to support young global leadership impacting positive social change, particularly in the fields of the Arts, Education, and Orphan Care.
Support includes microgrants and ‘spotlighting’ through social media and our the Foundation’s Stewardship Report on Connecting Goodness, which features original and aggregated content.
The Foundation was envisioned upon the death of Jim’s father, Stanford L. Luce, in 2008. It was incorporated in New York State in 2011 and has received tax-exempt 501(c)3 status from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Our History.
Leadership, Stewardship. It began in 1998 with Orphans International Worldwide,“Raising Global Leaders,” and was joined in 2008 by the J. Luce Foundation, “Supporting Young Global Leadership.” The Stewardship Report began publication in 2010. In 2015, the precursor to our Young Global Leadership Initiative known as the Executive Committee became a chapter of Lions Club International – the “New York Global Leadership Lions Club” (NYGLLC) – with Advisers, Fellows, Scholar, and Leaders joining. Over the summer 2016, we introduced a Toastmasters International chapter through the Foundation to provide leadership tools to our Young Global Leaders (YGL) – an outgrowth of our Internship Program and its successor, our Executive Committee.
The J. Luce Foundation (JLF) and Orphans International Worldwide (OIWW) continue to work together closely. The mottos of the two are ‘Supporting Young Global Leadership’ and ‘Raising Global Leaders’ – through Honor, Intelligence, Integrity, Benevolence, and Stewardship.
The Foundation was unique in its initial dual mission of providing challenge (micro) grants in addition to ‘spotlighting’ – highlighting through social media individuals and institutions uplifting of humanity. Today, with a more narrow focus on Endowment Funds and our Scholarship Fund for Young Global Leadership, the foundation embraces its next decade of service to humanity.
